Despite the heavy rains, Mexico pushes through and defeats Cameroon 1 - 0 Friday, despite two controversial calls as referees disallowed two of Mexico's goals earlier in the game.

Oribe Peralta saved Mexico with a goal on the 61st-minute mark, which justifies coach Miguel Herrera's call on starting with him instead of Javier Hernandez, a key player of the team.

However, confusion and controversy arose after referees disallowed two goals made by Mexico during the first half of the game. dos Santos' attacks, an offside on the 11th -minute mark and a header on the 29th-minute mark, were denied when a foul was called in front of Itanje.

"We could have scored more, but unfortunately we're not used to these conditions," Herrera said. "Frankly, the refereeing took away two clear goals, but at the end of the day you've got to work for it, and we get to the next match with three points and very high spirits," a note on Canada.com states.

MLS Soccer commended dos Santos' play, stating that "No matter what the flags said, he was in the right spots on attack all afternoon. More importantly, he showed a much-needed willingness to get back and defend - something that has not always marked his game in the past."

Heavy rains continued to pour on all throughout the game, but it did not keep Mexican fans from cheering for their star players as they overwhelmed the crowd.

Cameroon came close in the 58th minute as Assou-Ekotto saw his free-kick deflect narrowly wide of the target, a BleacherReport article states.

Mexico attempted to secure victory by scoring another goal against Cameroon. Nevertheless, Moukandjo came in close and challenged the Mexicans; yet it was thwarted by Ochoa's quick reflexes, bagging Mexico's victory in Group A.
