The Netherlands' second half game play saved them from Australia, June 18, at the Estadio Beira- Rio in Porto Alegre, making the match their second win for the tournament. However, it cannot be denied that the Australian Socceroos did scare the Dutch for some moments there at the field.
Australia kicked off the game in a good light, as they looked rather cozy with the ball and defensive on their side. But Oranje player Arjen Robben was in great shape, too, as any Australian effort didn't quite put up with his guard.
The first goal was set by Dutch attacker Robben twenty minutes after the game started. When he moved away from Australian centre-back Alex Wilkinson, goalkeeper Matthew Ryan let the ball slid past his hands, thus a 1-0.
However, the Australians were able to equalize the score with just 13 seconds after the first point. Their magical striker Tim Cahill just made one of the best World Cup goals for this tournament. Hitting the ball so intensely, that it bounced off the top rail of the net, then fell back instantly right inside it, making the goalkeeper look helplessly stunned.
It is so obvious that the Australians caused the Dutch some major headache during the game. In fact, Australia took the lead in the first stages of the second half, as Mile Jedinak scored in a free kick after Daryl Janmaat prevented Oliver Bozanic's cross with his arm.
However, with the Oranje fought back with another point leveller as Robin van Persie makes a goal just after four minutes from the penalty shot.
In the last 22 minutes of the game, the Netherlands decided that they could not play the good cop role anymore, and so, Memphis Depay makes another goal which ended the Socceroos running for the World Cup.
