Luis Suarez scores two goals for Uruguay, defeating England 2 - 1 at Arena Corinthians in Sao Paulo Thursday.

England is now on the brink of elimination after losing twice, with its first loss coming from Italy's last-minute victory 2 - 1.

Uruguay caught the upper hand of the first match as Luis Suarez attacks with a header from the center of the box with the help of Edinson Cavani.

England was dominating in terms of possession as they achieved a 62% possession rate, compared to Uruguay's 38%. Nevertheless, the English manages to catch up and equalize the game after Glen Johnson passes the ball to Wayne Rooney, who fires it left-footed shot, evening the score 1 - 1 on the 75th - minute mark of the match.

However, the tie was short-lived as Uruguay takes the lead once more just a few minutes after Rooney equalizes the match. Once again, Suarez strikes with a right footed shot on the 85th - minute mark, saving Uruguay from a draw.

CBC Sports dubs Suarez as the "man of the match," scoring two goals after his knee surgery.

Uruguay caught up well in the tournament after its humiliating defeat from Costa Rica 3 - 1 last Saturday at Estadio Castelao. In order for England to move on to the second round of the tournament, they must defeat Costa Rica in terms of goal difference.

Brandon Hicks of CBC Sports quotes Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez: "We won because they were fighting. It was not to do with the training, but the persistence and will of my players. Maybe we don't play very attractive football but we have players who give everything on the field."

On the other hand, England coach Roy Hodgson comments on Suarez' play on CBC Sports: ""I think we controlled Suarez very well in general play. We kept him quiet for long periods. He was voted the player of the year [in England] by everyone. Today he was coming back from injury, so he was quieter than usual. But he got two chances and being the top player that he is, he put them away."

England will face Costa Rica at Estadio Mineirao in Belo Horizonte, while Uruguay matches up against Italy at Estadio das Dunas in Natal. Both matches will be played on Tuesday, June 24.
