Ghana showed impressive skills in holding off 3-time World Cup winners Germany. Germany held the World Cup in 1954, 1974, 1990.
Ghana, a favorite team in Africa next to Ivory Coast and Nigeria displayed a strong attack in their first game, despite their 2-1 defeat agains the U.S. But Ghana is a force to be reckoned with and its opponents are aware of that. Ghana will have to win if they are to advance and are in a similar boat to England in terms of qualifying for the next round. Officials have also ruled out that Ghana's players are under mutiny against the coach.
Germany have a reputation for losing their second game and Miroslav Klose's goal found an equaliser that gave the side a chance of going through the 'round of 16.' Klose ties the most number of goals with Brazil's Ronaldo with 15 World Cup goals a piece."It wasn't perfect, but I can't remember the last time I did it," Klose noted. "Still, 15 goals in 20 matches, that's not bad."
Ronaldo responded with a tweet, "Welcome to the club #klose. I can imagine your happiness!!!! What a great Cup!!!? (sic)."
Germany coach Joachim Loew explained,"Ghana really threw everything they had at us. It was a very animated match. Both teams had many chances, and many counterattacks," adding, ""that's not how the match was planned, but that's how it turned out."
Mario Goetze scored in the 51st mn to Germany ahead but the celebrations did not last long when Andre Ayew scored an equalizer after three minutes. Ayew is a name to watch out for; he scored against the U.S. as well. In the 63rd mn, Ghana's captain Asamoah Gyan scored to put their team in the lead, and Klose canceled that goal in the 71st mn. Klose came into the game with 14 World Cup goals tying an earlier record set by German stalwart Gerd Muller, who has carved a name for himself as one of the best defenders who would also played on the offensive.
The 2-2 draw has given some hope to Ghana for a chance of entry into the next round. Their opening match against the U.S. closed with a 2-1 defeat.
James Appiah, Ghana's coach, said it was a good game for Ghana, although there were plenty of chances for Ghana to score.
