Tim Duncan's San Antonio Spurs stint continues as the player has decided to stay with the team, after an anonymous team insider confirmed that the five-time NBA champion decided to extend his contract for the 2014-2015 NBA season.

Previously in various reports, Tim Duncan's San Antonio Spurs fate was hanging in the balance, as the star forward himself was uncertain if he will stay with the franchise team he has been with since he came into the league in 1997.

However, in a report by The Associated Press, it was after the fifth and deciding game of the 2014 NBA Finals that made "The Big Fundamental" decide to stay with the team, wherein his coach Gregg Popovich believes he has a responsibility for.

"He feels a responsibility to his teammates," Popovich said in an interview with Yahoo! Sports. "He enjoys them. He wants to hang around as long as he can while he's useful and while he's having an impact on the game.

"He takes care of his body," he continued. "He works out all summer long with a variety of different things, boxing, swimming."

Tim Duncan has been the San Antonio Spurs' franchise player and has been under Popovich's tutelage for 17 years and running. Rightfully so, he has mastered the veteran coach's system and philosophies inside and out.

This has made it easier for him to embrace his role in the team a lot better.

"With the front office putting the teams together that we've had and us playing smaller roles and our roles changing over the years, and us happy to accept the roles that we're in, I feel we can do it until we feel we don't want to do it anymore," Duncan told Yahoo! Sports.

Tim Duncan's San Antonio Spurs stint has given him three NBA Finals MVP awards, two Most Valuable Player awards, and 14 NBA All-Star game appearances.
