Bosnia and Herzegovina defeats Iran 3 - 1 at Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador Wednesday, concluding their conquest in their last match of the World Cup tournament.

Bosnia and Herzegovina's victory was its first-ever win in the team's debut in the World Cup. Steve Claridge, a BBC football analyst, comments on the team's performance in BBC Sports: "Bosnia have their maiden World Cup win but they will be kicking themselves that they are not going further in this tournament. They took their chances and proved they were by far the better team. They could have gone up another gear. The right side won."

Iran would have advanced to the second round of the tournament if they scored more goals and defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina. However, Iran's dreams of advancing to the round of 16 were thwarted by star players Edin Dzeko and Miralem Pjanic.

Bosnia and Herzegovina immediately took the lead as Dzeko scored a goal through a left-footed shot which was assisted by Pjanic on the 23rd - minute mark of the match.

Pjianic also makes a point for the team during the second half of the match as he nets a right-footed shot through an assist by Tino Susic on the 59th - minute mark.

Nevertheless, Iran manages to fight back as Reza Ghoochannejhad attacks with a right-footed shot from a cross by Javad Nekounam on the 82nd - minute mark.

Bosnia and Herzegovina immediately answers as Avdija Vrsajevic nets a goal as he buries a right-footed shot barely a minute after Iran scored a point.

The match ended 3 - 1, with Bosnia and Herzegovina taking their first-ever victory in their maiden World Cup match.

Bosnia and Herzegovina's coach Safet Susic commends his team's performance at an interview in BBC Sports: "The win against Iran is scant consolation, but I congratulate my players for a display of commitment and passion against a team needing a win to keep alive their hopes of progressing."

"We lacked experience and cool heads at crucial moments in the opening two games but I cannot complain about effort. That's just football."

Carlos Queiroz, Iran's coach, also praises the performance of Bosnia and Herzegovina in BBC Sports: "The best team of the group did not qualify, Bosnia showed they have great players, great team with a lot of experience."

"Today they raised their levels and when that happened they gave us no chance," he further adds.
