Matt Hughes believes that the UFC and Georges St-Pierre should let go of their professional relationship, which is currently on hold.
"GSP" has taken an indefinite leave of absence from mixed martial arts competition since his last grueling battle with newly crowned champion Johny Hendricks at UFC 167 in November 2013.
Matt Hughes, a UFC Hall-of-Famer and former champion as well, expressed his concern about Georges St-Pierre through a statement he released at Canada.com.
"The UFC would hate me saying this but I'm going to say it anyway," Hughes said. "If I was GSP, I'd probably hang them up. Here I am a guy that lost my (last) two fights and I'd love to get back in there (to finish on a win)."
"And Georges got his hand raised the last fight," he added. "So if I had to give advice, I'd say, 'You want to get out? Get out.'"
Matt Hughes' UFC career has been a colorful one, being one of the most dominant welterweight champions in history. He has had his battles with "GSP" as well, with both men having one win apiece over each other.
As a veteran of the sport himself, Matt Hughes believes that Georges St-Pierre does not have anything to prove anymore.
"He's made a lot of money," Hughes continued. "I don't know what he makes a fight, but he's made a lot of money. He made a lot more money than I have. And I'm retired. So he could step back, retire."
In previous interviews, "GSP" himself has admitted that he had indeed lost his motivation to come back and fight. And given how fast the sport of mixed martial arts has evolved the skill levels of fighters have went along with it.
This was why Matt Hughes believes a UFC comeback for Georges St-Pierre is no longer needed.
"He's going to come back against a guy like Robbie Lawler, who's going to hit him," he added. "And Johny Hendricks, who's going to hit him. So there's not many reasons for him to come back."
"You tell me what's he got to come back for?" he rhetorically asked.
