It's a girl! Jimmy Kimmel's wife Molly McNearney gave birth to the couple's first child together, Jane, on Thursday, July 10, and the ecstatic father took to Twitter to share the news.
"Congratulations to my beautiful and very tough wife @mollymcnearney on delivering our baby girl this morning," the late-night comedian tweeted. A few minutes later, he followed it up with another tweet, "Thanks for all your kind baby wishes - turns out, not ALL tweets are mean!"
Not to be left behind, McNearney also used the popular social media website to express her happiness. Ever the funny woman, she wrote, "Kids, don't do drugs. Until you have a baby. Then do ALL OF THEM."
The couple first announced that they were expecting during Kimmel's guesting on The Ellen DeGeneres Show last February. "I'm gonna be one of those old dads," the 46-year-old host lamented at the time.
He also joked about baby names, saying, "I like the name Karate. I think Karate Kimmel has a great ring to it. Karate or The Riddler are the names we're thinking of." He also added in jest that it was the middle name that he was most excited about. "I'm thinking of Effin. E-f-f-i-n. Think of it this way, Ellen Effin DeGeneres. What a great name, right?"
This is Kimmel's first child with McNearney, and his third overall. He already has two children, Katherine, 22 and Kevin, 20, with ex-wife Gina Maddy whom he divorced in 2002.
Kimmel and McNearney met each other at the host's late night talk show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, where she started as the show's writer's assistant. They began dating in 2009 and got engaged while on safari in Africa in 2012. Now she's the co-head writer for the show, and the two have been married since July 2013.
Congratulations to the happy couple!
