Universal Studios has released the first trailer for Angelina Jolie's "Unbroken." The trailer arrives one week after its subject, Louis Zamperine, passed away from pneumonia at the age of 97.
According to other sources, Jolie and Zamperini grew close while making the film. The director even calls his loss "impossible to describe" in one of her statements.
"We are all so grateful for how enriched our lives are for having known him," Jolie said. "We will miss him terribly."
Distributor Universal Pictures is pushing the film as a tribute to the now-deceased hero. "We move forward to the release of Unbroken with a renewed sense of responsibility in bringing Louie's abundant life and indomitable spirit to the screen," the studio's statement read.
"Unbroken" is a true-to-life story of a World War II hero and a former Olympic long distance runner, Louis Zamperini. Co-scripted by the Coen Brothers, the movie features the life of the young Olympian, who enlisted in the Air Force after war broke out in 1941. After his plane went down in the Pacific, Zamperini and two crew mates were held prisoners by the Japanese after surviving 47 on a raft.
Universal first bought rights to Zamperini's life story way back during the 1950s. One can see the light of Oscar reflecting off this thing. And Universal believe they've got a contender here too, starting the promo train for this all the way back during the Winter Olympics, and now dropping a new trailer months before release.
Whilw "Unbroken" may seem to be just another World War II movie about war, it still contains a lot of sequences and dialogs that would actually serve as an inpsiration. The movie stars Jack O'Connell, Garrett Hedlund, Domhnall Gleeson, Jai Courtney, Luke Treadaway, and Alex Russell and marks Jolie's sophomore turn as director. "Unbroken" will be showing in theaters i time for Christmas season.
