Holly Holm was signed with the UFC as the newest high-profile talent for the company's women's bantamweight division. President Dana White himself confirmed the news through his Twitter account, which was reported by Yahoo! Sports.
"The Preacher's Daughter" is considered by many as a high-profile talent in women's mixed martial arts, and is seen to be the next big challenge for the current 135-pound champion "Rowdy" Ronda Rousey. She holds an undefeated mixed martial arts record of 7-0.
But before Holly Holms signed with the UFC, she has competed in professional boxing for nine years. She holds a record of 33-2 and 3 draws, and has bagged the WBF female light welterweight title. She also has competed in kickboxing, and holds a record of 2-1.
In another report by The LA Times, Holly Holms' UFC debut has yet to be finalized, as she is still nursing a broken arm she suffered in April during a fight against Juliana Werner at Legacy 30, where she won via fifth round TKO.
She trains under the renowned Greg Jackson and Mike Winklejohn in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the gym who has also bannered the likes of welterweight Diego Sanchez, reigning light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, and former welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, among others.
Ronda Rousey is still undefeated in her mixed martial arts career. After defeating Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Alexis Davis at UFC 175 in just 16 seconds, "Rowdy", who will be sidelined due to injuries, has finished every single opposition thrown at her.
Interestingly enough, "Rowdy" expressed her intent to face "The Preacher's Daughter", through a statement she made in December 2013.
"I would love to fight Holly Holm," Rousey said in an interview with MMA Junkie. "I would absolutely love to fight Holly Holm."
"I really hope that the UFC picks Holly up and that I get to fight her before I retire," she added.
Now that the Holly Holm is with the UFC, "Rowdy" may only get what she asked for. However, UFC President Dana White noted that "The Preacher's Daughter" would need at least one fight before facing the champion.
