The police drama "You're All Surrounded" held first place this week and saw a slight increase in the ratings. The drama rated 12.9 percent, 0.2 percent higher than the previous episode.
The last few episodes have been an emotional roller coaster ride. Eun Dae Gu, played by Lee Seung Gi, and his fellow rookie detectives finally got to make some arrests in the case of his mother's death. But in the process he also discovers that his father is alive. And he learns that the killer's anger at his very existence may have been the reason his mother died. Eun Dae Gu has fallen for his partner, played by Go Ara. She helps him weather the emotional storms he must confront.
The rookies who started out being detectives with mixed motives are now a dedicated team. They personify the drinking toast made earlier in the show, "you're all surrounded." It is not just something to say to criminals when they are cornered. The words of the toast mean they are there for each other.
"You're All Surrounded" ends next week and will be followed by "It's Okay, It's Love."
"The Joseon Gunman" jumped the highest. The drama increased its ratings by 0.6 to 10.5 percent as Yoon Kang, played by Lee Jun Ki, pursues revenge. He is pretending to be Hasejawa Hanjo and when Jeong Soo, played by Nam Sang Mi, sees through his disguise, he denies it. His denial makes her reconsider her feelings. She decides to forget him, proving yet again that the price of k-drama revenge may be too high.
"Fated To Love You" remained in third place but rose 1.1 percent to 9.0 percent in the ratings. By the fourth episode Jang Nara had confessed her pregnancy to her family and Jang Hyuk. With pressure from her family and his grandmother, who desperately longs for an heir to the clan, the two decide to marry. It wasn't exactly a shotgun wedding but it was so hasty the two will have cause to regret their decision. The comedy offers plenty of almost slapstick humor, great chemistry between Jang Nara and Jang Hyuk and quite a few entertaining characters.
Although it has been in third place for the first two weeks, the drama has already been a financial success for the producers. Broadcasting rights in China went for $120,00 per episode due to Jang Nara's popularity there. That was more than "You Who Came From Another Star," which sold at $40,000 per episode, and "The Heirs," which sold for $30,000 per episode.
