Fifa officials have chosen Italian referee Nicola Rizzoli to take over the World Cup finals match between Germany and Argentina, but he has been in the middle of some accusations of favouring Lionel Messi, and his Argentina team.

The 42- year- old referee was cristisized heavily by Belgium coach Marc Wilmots for his 'biased' services during their 1-0 quarterfinal loss against the Albiceleste.

Coach Wilmots has said, "I don't want to be a cry baby, but I noticed the referee never gives fouls against Argentina.

"Every time something happens with Messi the referee gives him a free-kick.

"I notice he [Messi] made three fouls and no yellow card, we made one foul and one yellow card."

Coincidentally, the European has also refereed not one, but two of Argentina's victpries during this World Cup. He also took over Argentina's win over Nigeria during the group matches. The South Americans scored 3-2 against the Africans in Group F.

However, the first game he officiated was the Netherlands' 5-1 mind blowing win over Spain during the group matches.

The Italian referee is an architect from Bologna, but started his career as a referee in 2007, where he took over both the finals of the two main European club tournaments. He was also present during the Atletico Madrid- Fulham of the 2010 UEFA Europa League highlights. Then, he also officiated between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund during the 2013 UEFA Champions League.

But his FIFA career started in 2011, where he refereed for two games. In UEFA EURO 2012, the Italian referee handled the Spain- France quarter-finals, and another two from the tournament. He also officiated two games for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey last year.

Now, Rizzoli will handle the finals with the assistance of Renato Faverani and Andrea Stefani, while Carlos Vera from Ecuador will be the fourth official.
