Which smartphone device is the ideal purchase for consumers? We pit the Samsung Galaxy S4 against the Motorola Moto G to see which is the better choice.
In terms of design and display, the Motorola Moto G's display is IPS LCD measuring 5 inches and renders a resolution of 720x1280pixels (326ppi). It’s protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3, weighs 143 grams, and its dimensions are 129.9×65.9×11.6 mm.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 on the other hand has a Super AMOLED display which also measure 5 inches, but it has Full HD and a higher resolution of 1080x1920pixels (441ppi). It is 13 grams lighter than its rival and its dimensions are: 136.6×69.8×7.9 mm.
Forthe hardware an OS, the Motorola Moto G has a 1.2GHz Quad-core Cortex-A7 GPU, which is backed up by the Qualcomm MSM8226 Snapdragon 400 chipset and the Adreno 305 GPU. It has 1GB of RAM and 8/16GB of internal memory, which can’t be expanded. It runs on the Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean)OS, which can be upgraded to the 4.4.3(KitKat) version.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 has a 1.6GHz Quad-core Cortex-A15&1.2GHz quad-core Cortex-A7 CPU, backed up by the Exynos 5 Octa 5410 chipset and PowerVR SGX544MP3 GPU. It has a 2GB of RAM with 16/32/64GB of internal memory (the first two variants being expandable up to 64GB) and runs on the Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean) OS, but users can now upgrade it to the 4.4.2 (KitKat) version.
For battery usage and camera specs, the Motorola Moto G has a non-removable Li-Ion battery with the capacity of 2070mAh, while the Samsung S4’s battery is replaceable and it has the capacity of 2600mAh, which allows users to talk for about 17 hours on 3G and last 370 hours in stand by mode.
The primary camera for the Motorola smartphone is a o5MP and supports a resolution of 2592x1944pixels, featuring LED flash, autofocus, HDR, panorama, and which records videos 720p@30fps with stereo sound. The other camera is of 1.3MP.
Meanwhile, the Samsung unit has a better primary camera of 13MP (4128x3096pixels), LED flash, autofocus, Dual Shot, HDR, simultaneous HD video & image recording, touch focus, image stabilization, geo-tagging, 1080p@30fps dual-video recording. The secondary camera is 2MP.
The Motorola Moto G 8GB variant cost $179 on amazon.com, while the Samsung Galaxy S4 16GB variant cost $429 in the same website.
