Angelica Celaya has been tapped by NBC to join the much coveted cast of "Constantine," where she will be playing the role of Zed the Psychic.
Celaya, who is a Mexican-American actress, is set to join the cast as a psychic named Zed, who already has powers when she encounters Constantine. Her character is off of DC Comics' "Hellblazer," according to Aceshowbiz.
Zed is described as a lover of Constantine, played by actor Matt Ryan. She is also the wayward daughter of an evangelical family made up of artists.
"Constantine's" Executive Producer, Daniel Cerone, announced Celaya's inclusion into the series during Sunday's Television Critics Association press tour, the same publication noted.
He said, "She's someone who can go toe to toe with John Constantine, and that's ultimately something we felt like we needed. We wanted a more dynamic relationship, as opposed to someone who is a teacher/mentor and a student. It just didn't feel as fertile and rich of an area as just a strong a man and a strong woman who are both very different."
Cerone added that Zed's character is much smarter and more assured of herself, The Wrap noted.
"Zed has a little more smarts, has a little more wherewithal, by design, she's more assured. She comes from a very, very dark background. Even down to the love interest at the end of the day. Zed is the first character in the Hellblazer comics whom Constantine gets romantically or sexually involved with," Cerone explained.
Celaya has starred in several other shows including TNT's "Dallas," where she replaced Lucy Griffiths. Griffiths was booted off the series because "Constantine" was set to taking a brand new direction, Mashable confirmed.
The Mexican-American actress has also starred in a handful of successful Spanish telenovelas, as well as USA Network's "Burn Notice," according to The Wrap.
"Constantine" is set to premiere on Friday, October 26 on NBC.
