On July 14, a news portal released names of celebrities who were suspected for tax evasion, and among those mentioned are Hallyu celebrities Jang Geun Suk and Rain.
The celebrities are being investigated for evading millions of wons of taxes from overseas activities by sending the money in bank accounts under another name, thus avoiding having to pay the large sum.
Rain's agency Cube DC expressed, "Rain's involvement in the tax evasion investigation is completely false, and we regret that this had to happen. All of his events are bound by legal contract, and all performance fees are paid to Cube DC's official bank account."
Cube DC added, "We have completed filing the income tax for activities inside and outside Korea. In addition, not one of his activities in China were omitted of tax. If the National Tax Services require proper documents, we are willing to submit our files."
Jang Geun Suk's agency Tree J Company likewise released a statement, saying, "The report claiming that Jang Geun Suk is being investigated for tax evasion is completely false, and we express our apologies over worrying his fans."
They further explained, "Activities in overseas countries were carried out after signing legal contracts. We would like to clarify that there is no tax evasion, and we will need to confirm details to clear his name."
