Casey Kasem's body was confirmed by police to be missing, said a report from People magazine. The radio host's daughter Kerri Kasem had sent a lawyer to Gaffney Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Tacoma, Washington, where the lawyer then confirmed that Casey Kasem's body was no longer there.
Kerri, who had instructed the funeral home to keep her father's body in cold storage and not proceed with a cremation pending a complete autopsy, said her father's second wife Jean Kasem is responsible for the missing body.
The discovery that Casey Kasem's body was missing follows a restraining order placed on Jean upon the request of Kerri. The lawyer had gone to the funeral home to bring a copy of the restraining order, where the body of the "American Top 40" radio host was missing.
"They said they could not disclose where he had gone or where he would end up," said Scott Winship, Kerri Kasem's lawyer.
A report from Toronto Star said Kerri as well as Casey's other children from his first marriage hope that their father will be buried at Forest Lawn cemetery in Glendale, California "as (Casey) wished".
However, it is Casey's second wife, Jean, who has the rights to his body, "but has not yet arranged for him to be buried", said Kerri's publicist. This has added to the controversy between Casey's children and his second wife.
Led by Kerri, Casey's children said their father was being kept away from them while being sick with Parkinson's and dementia.
A court battle ensued and Kerri was given the chance to have doctors examine her father Casey. It was then discovered that he had been removed from a Santa Monica hospital by Jean, taken out of California, had severe bedsores, and was taken off life support.
Casey Kasem was 82 when he died last June 15 at a hospital in Gig Harbor, Washington.
