With the acquisition of "The Simpsons" series, FXX decides to air the longest running marathon in TV history. All 25 seasons of the veteran animated comedy (that's 552 episodes) will be featured, which will also include "The Simpsons Movie" in chronological order, starting from August 21 through September 1.
Pretty soon, fans will be able to watch all episodes of "The Simpsons" for the first time on their computer or other networked devices wherever they may be. FXX struck a deal to obtain the exclusive cable network rights last year to the longest-running primetime animated series, is putting The Simpsons archive online, all of which are fully searchable.
FXX is launching "Simpsons World," a new way of getting on-demand Simpsons content. For the first time, viewers can access every episode of the series via their computer or other networked devices wherever they may be. "Authenticated" FX subscribers will have instant access on iPhone, Xbox 360, Xbox One, iPad, Android phones and tablets, Smart TVs, and extra set-tops devices. Viewers can also look for certain quotes, line up custom playlists, as well as share their favorite show clips and quotes.
The site will greatly widen the availability of Simpsons content online. Hulu presently carries an archive of classic Simpsons clips, while only the series' eight most recent episodes are available for viewing on that streaming service.
"I don't want to over-promise, but this website can provide you with affordable health care," joked longtime Simpsons executive producer Al Jean.
From Sept. 2, FXX will schedule "The Simpsons" across their lineup on weekdays and weekends, and will air themed mini-marathons of eight episodes every Sunday from 4pm, before the show's broadcast on Fox at 8pm.
"The Simpsons" is a Gracie Films Production in association with 20th Century Fox Television. James L. Brooks, Matt Groening and Al Jean are the executive producers. Film Roman, a Starz Media Company, is the animation house.
