Alexander Gustafsson news features "The Mauler's" explanation of his injury that made him pull out of his rematch against Jon Jones. He also believes that Jon Jones will emerge victorious in the newly made match-up against Daniel Cormier.
The former UFC light heavyweight number one contender released his statements through mixed martial arts Facebook page Tap. Nap. Snap.
"I'm disappointed I can't fight, but this is not the end," he said about the Alexander Gustafsson news. "It's just the beginning. I'm going to come back much stronger."
Alexander Gustafsson was slated to face Jon Jones at UFC 178 on September 27 in Las Vegas. However, he was forced to withdraw from the bout due to a knee injury he sustained in training camp. He is now scheduled to undergo corrective surgery, along with a six-week rehabilitation treatment.
"The Mauler" went on to relay the full details of his injury, how it happened, and how he immediately felt when it occurred.
"I was sparring and I felt my knee pop twice, but it didn't hurt, it just felt strange," Gustafsson continued. "I finished training and came home and then I woke up the next morning and I could barely walk on my right leg. Then I felt the knee right away."
Alexander Gustafsson news reveals that "The Mauler" was slated to face Jon Jones in a rematch. In their first fight, he was able to keep the match-up close, unlike the other opponents that "Bones" has faced.
He was able to inflict the most damage on the reigning champion, which made many fans clamor for an immediate rematch.
However, the 27-year old Swedish fighter also believes that Jon Jones can pull off a decision victory when he faces Daniel Cormier.
"It's an interesting matchup," Gustaffson said. "Both are great athletes and it's going to be a tough fight for sure. But Jones has his height and reach advantage over 'DC,' so I think that will be the key thing in this fight. I think Jones by decision."
