Spoiler Alert! Ian Somerhalder and Kat Graham are coming back to the sixth season of The Vampire Diaries to reprise their roles as Damon and Bonnie. But the question is: in which episode are they returning?
The last season's finale showed Somerhalder's Damon and Graham's Bonnie trapped on The Other Side just as it was crumbling down. Obviously, the fandom exploded as fans wondered if the two were gone for good.
But this is TVD, a show that revolves around death-so obviously they're slated to return. But how will Stefan (Paul Wesley), Elena (Nina Dobrev), Caroline (Candice Accola) and the rest of the cast cope with the loss? The new season will begin with a four-month time jump and Executive Producer Julie Plec dished out some exciting plot details during the CW network's Summer TCA Party, where she talked with E! News and other reporters to explain what the sixth season will about: "the ensemble trying to find their way back to each other, trying to get back their grief, start over, move on and get their home back ultimately."
The first question on the table was when exactly we'll be seeing Somerhalder and Graham back. Plec didn't pinpoint the exact episode, but teased us, saying "you'll see enough of them to make you happy and more as it goes along. They are by no means going to be off the air for six episodes." She adds, "The mystery is where are they, what happened, are they dead, not dead, and what the hell they are going to do together, those two of all people?"
She also discussed how Stefan and Elena would be handling their grief, with the latter losing both her best friend and boyfriend. "One of the big questions you'll be asking when we get back is how did she pick up the pieces?" Plec told TV Guide. "Or did she pick up the pieces at all? When we come back, several months have passed and Elena has returned to her life at school and seems to be doing well, but the mystery is really how well is she doing? And she's got some odd and awkward coping mechanisms that inform a lot about where she is and how she's handling this particular grief."
How about Stefan? "Each of them have a very specific method of how they're dealing with it and they find a strange appreciation of each other's methods even though they're not necessarily healthy," Plec said. "They'll connect over the fact that sometimes it takes extreme choices to move past something that has hurt you so deeply. So we will see their friendship able to be strong and healthy in spite of the way each of them individually are dealing with their loss."
