What an unlikely pairing!
Blake Lively is on the cover of Vogue's August 2014 issue and in her interview, the Gossip Girl star opened up about her new friendship with lifestyle mogul Martha Stewart. Turns out, the actress enlisted Stewart's help in planning her September 2012 wedding with actor Ryan Reynolds.
The Green Lantern actress had some trouble with wedding preparations and called Stewart for emergency intervention. She was rescued by Martha Stewart's team, who helped create an elegant rustic wedding at Boone Hall Plantation in Charleston, South Carolina (the same stately vacation house featured in the romantic movie The Notebook). Stewart also set up a post-wedding getaway for Lively and Reynolds by getting help from friends who own a property in South Carolina.
Though Lively kept the ceremony private, she allowed Martha Stewart Weddings magazine to run photos of flower arrangements, hors d'oeuvres, dessert plates from the reception.
The Stewart Weddings team wrote that Lively and Reynolds, unlike many Hollywood couples, did not sell their wedding photos to the highest bidder. They kept the event small and intimate, inviting only thirty-five guests including Florence Welch who sang at the reception and Lively's Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants co-stars Alexis Bledel, America Ferrera, and Amber Tamblyn.
In spite of their 46-year age difference, the two became fast friends after Lively moved into Stewart's neighborhood in Bedford, New York a couple of years ago.
"She moved into my neighborhood a couple of years ago with Ryan-before they got married, they bought a house right around the corner from my house. And they started to come over, not to borrow sugar, but just as friends," Stewart told Huffington Post in an interview.
She adds that Mr. and Mrs. Gosling are "very friendly, very nice people."
Stewart has also publicly expressed her admiration for the couple, citing Lively's baking and the couple's overall shy disposition she finds strikingly contrary to their on-screen personas.
"In a way, kind of shy-not shy on the screen, at all, if you've seen any of Blake's movies-but very shy in person. But she's a baker and a homemaker and now she's starting her own blog... I haven't seen it yet," the host says.
But what does America's homemaking queen have to say about Lively's house parties? Stewart has publicly praised Lively's cooking and entertaining, calling the things she makes "fabulous".
Lively has recently launched her own artisan lifestyle website called Preserve. Stewart laughed off questions about Lively's plans to be the next Martha.
"Let her try!" she joked.
"I don't mean that facetiously! I mean...Why would you want to be me if you could be an actress? I just did a movie yesterday, though-I can't even tell you about it-but I want to be Blake Lively," she finished, laughing.
