Fans of Sherlock Holmes and Dr.Watson of the "Sherlock" TV series want more from the tandem than just their excellent rapport and collaborative ingenious efforts in solving crimes: They want them to become gay lovers, too. Viewers expressed their unanimous request through fan mails that flooded the inbox and mailbox of the BBC TV show co-creator Mark Gatiss.
Originally, the relationship between the two main characters of the series is brotherly. Fans, however, demand that they take it further, reported the Mirror.
According to The London Evening Standard, Gatiss, who is also one of the actors in the series, replied to DNA, an Australian gay magazine as he said that some fans' suggestions concerning the requested relationship were so shocking to the extent of being graphic.
This means that they visualized Sherlock Holmes and Dr.Watson going beyond sweet gestures, in making their romantic relationship obvious on the boob tube. Based on the report of Mirror, fans went out of their way to illustrate their suggestions, sending not just written plot lines but also drawings.
According to the Mail Online, the Billy Wilder film released in 1970 inspired Gatiss and his co-creator of the TV series Steven Moffat. It has led them to come up with the joke about Sherlock Holmes and Dr.Watson having a relationship.
It was in 2010 when they first showed three series of the famous detective and his assistant's crime-busting adventure on BBC. As reported by the MailOnline, BBC has announced that they are set to begin filming the full-length special episode of the show on January 2015. The network made the announcement earlier this July.
