West Bromwich Albion boss Alan Irvine is expectant that Joleon Lescott has not suffered a setback from his recent injury as he is to sign this summer for West Brom.
Lescott who has just joined West Brom on a free transfer from Manchester City has been struggling with a calf problem. Conversely, he was found fit enough to appear as a half-time substitute in Saturday's friendly at Nottingham Forest.
The centre-half, however, was pulled off before full-time due to a knee problem, but Irvine would like to confident and optimistic that the athlete has not picked up a serious problem that would hinder him from doing well, or worse, from playing.
Irvine said that he had spoken to Lescott and the player said that he is feeling fine. "He just felt something on the outside of his knee. He felt it when he was warming up and when he cleared from the corner of the pitch he felt it go."
"He was a little bit worried about it at the time but it has settled so hopefully it's nothing too bad."
Sebastien Pocognoli, Lescott's fellow defensive recruit also got hurt during the 1-0 defeat at the City ground.
Irvine added that Pocognoli had been complaining in the first half about being a bit tight in his groin and hips. "We did a bit of work on him at half-time and then, of course, he got clattered going for a header."
The boss also confirmed that he is still open for new signings and the club is still looking for players in wide areas.
"You can see we've got some lads having to play out of position-like Craig Gardner and Graham Dorrans-not because I want them to play out of position but because that's where we are at the moment."
"Everyone knows we didn't have any full-backs and any wide players at the beginning when I first came in. We've now got a better full-back situation but even there we're still a bit light."
