Gus Poyet, Sunderland head coach, is keen to signing up new players to his squad this summer, and believes that the potential signings will contribute significantly and might even perhaps cause a shock.
The former Uruguayan footballer has already maximized his options with the additions of Billy Jones, Jordi Gomez, Costel Pantilimon, and Patrick van Aanholt. This, and he also confirmed negotiations with Liverpool regarding striker Fabio Borini.
Poyet is looking forward to build on their 14th-place finish, and to fulfill his plans, his targets this summer also include Santiago Vergini and Marcos Alonso, who both had successful loan spells at the Stadium of Light last season.
The 46-year-old Sunderland boss is currently excited for this week as he anticipates activity in the transfer market since his side has returned to England following three pre-season friendlies in Portugal.
"There are plenty of things going on and I'm looking forward to things happening in the next few days, so it's all positive," Poyet told the Shields Gazette.
He thinks his side has a great chance of signing players and it he is optimistic that people are going to be surprised by their next move as if it were a bomb awaiting explosion.
"We've had a few things that before we knew it they didn't work. But I'm hoping there's going to be some good news over the next two or three days."
Poyet also said that they are eyeing a long list of players and was reluctant to admit whether he targets a player in particular since Sunderland have been linked with Cardiff City midfielder Jordon Mutch, who is also said to be attracting quite a few interest from other clubs.
When asked about his specific targets for the transfer, Poyet said: "It's not fair on the players or the clubs either. I prefer not to go too much in to it."
