Gina Carano's fight against Ronda Rousey would be a great business move according to two-division UFC champion Randy Couture. The UFC Hall-of-Famer also believes that the match-up between both women can wait.
Gina Carano's fight against Ronda Rousey is set to happen once "Conviction" is successfully signed by the UFC. But according to her former trainer, the match-up against "Rowdy" will be helping the UFC in a great way, in terms of the business side of things.
"I think from a business standpoint, absolutely, ZUFFA and UFC are going to put a ton of money in their pockets for that fight whether they let Gina prepare properly or not, that's not really a question." Couture told The MMA Hour. "I think that's a huge fight."
"For a long time Gina Carano was the queen of MMA," he added. "She is exactly what Ronda Rousey is to MMA right now. To have those two meet up, is a huge fight on the business side of things."
Gina Carano's fight against Ronda Rousey has not yet been scheduled, but she has not competed in professional mixed martial arts since August 2009. Holding a record of 7-1, she last fought in the now defunct Strikeforce organization against Cristiane "Cyborg" Justino where she lost via first round knockout.
Since then, she has been appearing in various films, most notably for the sixth film of the Fast & Furious franchise.
Ronda Rousey, on the other hand, has been active in her mixed martial arts campaign, holding both an undefeated 10-0 record and the UFC women's bantamweight title.
Given this comparison, Randy Couture believes that throwing "Conviction" to face "Rowdy" would be "silly."
"I think it's silly, it'd be silly for Gina," Couture said. "I think Gina has way more to lose there than she has to gain in stepping right in to a title fight after being off and off the mats in training environment for five years. And frankly she's done a great job in her movie career, I don't know why she would want to do that."
"I think if they give her a chance to get her feet back under her and get back up to technical speed where she was, it would be a very interesting fight," he added.
