Lucy Hale In ‘Fifty Shades Of Grey;' Country Singer Almost Made The Cut! ‘Pretty Little Liars’ Star On Her Awkward Experience Auditioning For The Role Of Dakota Johnson's Anastasia Steele

Lucy Hale in "Fifty Shades of Grey," and what could've been a different casting if the country singer made the cut.

Fans might have seen a very different Lucy Hale in "Fifty Shades of Grey," if the country singer landed the role of Anastasia Steele. It turns out a lot of auditions were turned down in favor of Dakota Johnson.

Hale's audition was quite notable, though, and she remembered feeling uncomfortable when she did it. Playing a lead role in an S&M film isn't exactly for the faint of heart, and Hale knew she had to be racy to make the cut.

In an interview for this September's Cosmopolitan magazine issue, Hale comments about the awkwardness of her auditions, bidding for Anastasia Steele's character.

"That audition was so uncomfortable! It's exactly what you thought it would be: a big monologue but very, very sexual. There were some things that I was so embarrassed to be reading out loud, but it's one of those things where you have to commit wholeheartedly or you're going to make a fool of yourself."

That's as close as fans will ever get to seeing Lucy Hale in "Fifty Shades of Grey," although the singer is aware of Hollywood's pressures and expectations on women, considering her role in "Pretty Little Liars."

"['Pretty Little Liars'] is about how we look too. That's terrifying sometimes because you're breaking out or you feel gross and you still have to be in front of the camera. We'll post pictures on Instagram and people will be like, 'Y'all are so flawless.' Little do they know it's fake hair, fake eyelashes, and a good filter. Little girls see that and think they have to be like that."

"We all kind of struggle with different things, we all go through the same emotions and [the song is] kind of like my way of spreading girl empowerment. I think that the song is very uniting and it makes us feel like one in the same which is something that we always lose sight of." (huffingtonpost.com)

Will fans ever see Lucy Hale in "Fifty Shades of Grey"? How about a recast "Fifty Shades Darker" movie, anyone?
