A Marilyn Monroe biopic is being ironed out for a TV mini-series by the Lifetime Network, based on the J. Randy Taraborrelli's best-selling book "The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe."

There's no actress that has been tapped to play the role yet, but Variety has confirmed by it's being written for screen by Stephen Kornish, who interestingly also wrote "The Kennedys." Director Laurie Collyer ("Sherrybaby" ) is also being groomed to direct the Marilyn Monroe biopic.

Asylum Entertainment is producing the show, the same outfit that produced "The Kennedys." For now, the Marilyn Monroe biopic is tentatively called "Marilyn." Aside from writing, Kornish is also producing the show along with Jonathan Koch, Keri Selig and Steven Michaels.

Born Norma Jean Mortenson, the voluptuous actress and model became a huge sex symbol of the 60s. She carved an interesting, but rather short career, culminating with a Golden Globe award for her role in "Some Like It Hot" in 1959. She went on to appear in what would be her last film, "The Misfits" which was written by Arthur Miller, her husband at that time. She died on August 5, 1962.

There were many actresses who played Marilyn Monroe such as Catherine Hicks, Ashley Judd, Mira Sorvino, Barbara Niven, Poppy Montgomery, Sophie Monk, Lindsay Lohan, Anna Nicole Smith and Michelle Williams, according to Stylist magazine.

Marilyn Monroe's biopic will surely touch her alleged affair with President John F. Kennedy and the other men in her life. Taraborrelli's book also explored the late actress' relationship with her mother and foster mother as well as her guardian.

In his review of Taraborrelli's book, Peter Conrad of the Observer wrote that the author might have revealed new information regarding Marilyn Monroe's drug addict of a mother, or that JFK and Robert Kennedy didn't share her, or that she wasn't killed by the Kennedys.

"Though Taraborrelli is an indefatigable gossip hound, he's less good at analysing Marilyn's inflammatory appeal," he wrote.
