"The Killing" season 4 recap revealed that Linden and Holder did kiss off-camera, as executive producer Veena Sud promised that there would be no season 5, and fans would just have to make their own ending on the romance between the two detectives.
The showrunner accommodated TVLine for "The Killing" season 4 recap and she narrated a funny story regarding Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman right at the very last scene, where they were supposed to have met five years later.
She said that she never wanted Linden and Holder to kiss. Director Jonathan Demme did a crane shot that dollied away from the actors to take in the scenery. But nobody shouted cut so both Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman continue acting, "which was him walking towards her, looking at each other and then... they didn't really know what to do next."
"So they kissed! The funniest thing is, everyone was clustered around the monitors looking at the shot and the script supervisor and my producer, Kristen Campo, were the only people looking on the ground at Mireille and Joel, and Campos kept nudging me, "Look! Look!" And I was like, "I am! I'm looking at the shot!" So I never saw the kiss, but they did," she said.
Veena Sud in her "The Killing" season 4 recap also said Linden and Holder will not be coming back for season 5.
"We brought her to the end of her journey. She found the thing that she was looking for all along. It's the end of the story," she said.
Meanwhile, ScreenRant summed up its "The Killing" season 4 review by saying that the series "that wouldn't die" ended on a somewhat happy note due to the realization that "two broken people come the realization that being broken isn't so bad, so long as there's someone to be broken with."
