Denzel Washington's "The Equalizer" sees the actor working again for the second time with acclaimed director Antoine Fuqua in the movie version of the action-packed TV drama series that was made popular by Edward Woodward in 1985-1989 (IMDB).
According to Indie Wire, the action film would debut at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. On the same month, Denzel Washington's "The Equalizer" is scheduled to be the opener of the San Sebastian Film Festival, which is the most prestigious film festival in Spanish speaking countries - and it is also known to be the spot where producers and directors take their film to spark speculations about possible Oscar winners.
So does it increase the chances of Denzel Washington's "The Equalizer" landing an Oscar nomination in the not so distant future? Indie Wire says "Yes."
The site noted that when Denzel Washington worked with Antoine Fuqua before to create "Training Day," he walked away with the Oscar award for "Best Actor." Coincidentally, the film also debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival prior to hitting cinemas.
Fan Sided further corroborated the possibility by citing how perfect the film was for Fuqua to direct. His experience in action-packed thrillers would come in handy. He was notable for having directed movies such as "Olympus Has Fallen" and "Brooklyn's Finest." They added that working with Washington in this movie will not be difficult at all because the two of them have worked in "Training Day" before.
Just a little more than a month away from its scheduled release date, Fan Sided reported that the movie has already put out a poster with Denzel Washington's image in the focus. It has also acquired a TV spot that features new clips from the film that were shown with Eminem's new single with Sia feat entitled "Guts Over Fear" playing in the background.
"The Equalizer" is from Sony Pictures. It will open in cinemas on September 26, 2014 and stars Denzel Washington, Chloe Moretz, Martin Csokas and Melissa Leo, reported Indie Wire.
