Which smartphone is ideal purchase for consumer? We pit the HTC Desire 616 against the Nexus 4 to see which is better.

For the design and display, the HTC Desire 616 is available in three color options: black, white and red. The smartphone weighs 150 grams and sports the following dimensions: 142 x 71.9 x 9.2 mm. The display seen on the HTC unit measures 5 inches and can render a screen resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels and a pixel density of 294 ppi. As for user interface, it has the HTC Sense 5.5 UI.

The Nexus 4 is available in two color options: white and black. It is smaller and lighter than its rival (weighing 139 grams, dimensions: 133.9 x 68.7 x 9.1 mm). It is protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass-2, and has a 4.7 inches display HD IPS+ capacitive screen with multi-touch support and 768 x 1280 pixels/ 318 ppi.

In terms of hardware and OS, the HTC Desire 616 has a Cortex A7: octa core working at 1.7 GHz that is paired up with the Mediatek MT6592 chipset and Mali-450MP4 GPU. Regarding connectivity, the device provides support for GPS, EDGE, Wi-Fi, Navigation, Bluetooth 4.0, GPRS and DLAN. As for preinstalled apps in the Android Jelly Bean operating system, we’re faced with Google+, Twitter, Facebook, WhatsApp and more. It supports 1 GB of RAM and 4 GB of internal storage capacity (if users choose to use a microSD card, it can expand the internal memory by up to 32 GB).

Meanwhile, the Nexus 4 has a Krait processor: quad core working at 1.5 GHz paired up with the Snapdragon APQ8064 chipset from Qualcomm and Adreno 320 GPU. It supports 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage capacity (there is no microSD card, meaning that the memory is not expandable). It runs on the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, which can be upgraded to Android 4.4.2 KitKat.

For the battery and camera specs, the HTC Desire 616 is equipped with a Li-Po model with a capacity of 2000 mAh which is estimated to last around 14 hours of talking time (700 hours of standby time).

The Nexus 4 has a Li-Po model with a capacity of 2100 mAh that can last up to 15 hours of talking time (390 hours of standby time).

The HTC unit has an 8 MP camera (autofocus + LED flash) which renders a resolution of 2364 x 2448 pixels. The secondary camera has 2 MP.

The Google unit also has an 8 MP camera and multiple features like: LED flash, autofocus and geo tagging. The resolution the camera has is of 3264 x 2448 pixels. The secondary camera has 1.3 MP.

The HTC Desire 616 cost around $246.99, the Nexus 4 is at $279.99.
