If you grew up in the 80s, then you will surely be thrilled to hear that there's a possibility of producing "The Goonies 2". The latest news came from the director of the 1985 cult classic film "The Goonies". During an interview with TMZ, Richard Donner revealed that the sequel isn't a side project. He was also asked if Steven Spielberg was involved in the project and that's when he started to spill out some details.
The veteran film director said, "Steven came up with the idea of doing a sequel after thirty years." Donner revealed, "We've been trying for a while, and then he came up with another story line. He's right on." With Spielberg's involvement in the film, fans can expect "The Goonies 2" to be big! So does this mean that they will be bringing back the original cast?
The 84-year old movie producer said, "God knows, it's up to them. If they have any sense they will, if they don't they won't." The original film starred Sean Astin as Mike, Corey Feldman as Mouth, Josh Brolin as Brand, and Jeff Cohen as Chunk.
Despite the news that Richard Donner is working with Steven Spielberg, Corey Feldman is skeptical about the whole idea. He told TMZ, "It can't be done without a perfect script! We all must be certain that it doesn't miss the magic of the original."
Another actor that's also skeptical about "The Goonies 2" is Josh Brolin. The 46-year old actor recently appeared in "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" to promote "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For". It was the 30th anniversary of "The Goonies" and Josh Brolin reminisced about his experience doing that cult film.
When Jimmy Fallon asked him if he will be interested in doing a sequel, Brolin showed a lot of interest but he can't trust the source. He said, "I would do it! I would do it. But every five years, I keep hearing that we're going to do it, and then I'm like - and then finally, when you hear something like Richard Donner saying ... but it's on TMZ, so you can't believe it. It's like, 'Yes! We're going to do it!' And I'm like, 'It says TMZ on the bottom, man!'"
I guess Corey Feldman and Josh Brolin are just waiting for Richard Donner and Steven Spielberg to officially announce that they are already working on "The Goonies 2" in a press conference.
