Floyd Mayweather's next fight was discussed by another boxing legend. This time around, "Sugar" Ray Leonrd offered his two cents, saying he is excited for the rematch and expects knockdowns from both fighters this time around.
Floyd Mayweather's next fight will be a highly anticipated rematch against Marcos "El Chino" Maidana on September 13th, at "Money May's" hometown of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Boxing legend Roberto "Hands of Stone" Duran previously shared his thoughts about the fight, as the Mexican superstar predicted a victory for Floyd Mayweather.
"I say Mayweather," Duran told Marcos Villegas of Fight Hub. "For me, Mayweather lost the first match, but they gave it to him."
"Maidana, when you box him, he doesn't know what to do," Duran continued. "Maidana will do the same stuff. I think Mayweather will box him and he'll box him, make him miss and fail."
This time around, another Hall-of-Fame inductee spoke about Floyd Mayweather's next fight: five-division world champion "Sugar" Ray Leonard. But unlike his former foe, the 58-year old native of Rocky Mount, North Carolina gave a more open-ended take on the rematch.
"That fight is a very intriguing one. It was a close fight," Leonard said in a separate interview with Fight Hub. "I think now both fighters know each other, so it's going to be a better fight, because they'll be better prepared. They'll know what to expect."
During the first encounter between Floyd Mayweather and Marcos Maidana in May, the boxing world saw "Money May" in a more vulnerable state, as "El Chino" was able to inflict significant damage in the first half of the bout.
Unfortunately for the Argentine boxer, he was not able to sustain the same energy, which in turn, gave Mayweather the chance to recuperate and take over the fight. In the end, boxing's pound-for-pound king emerged victorious via majority decision as he holds on to his undefeated record of 46-0.
For "Sugar" Ray though, the upcoming rematch will be a more physical fight compared to the previous encounter, and he expects a knockdown or two from either fighter.
I think you'll see more punches and probably a knockdown," Leonard continued. "I'm not a psychic. I just envision -- I don't know which one goes down, because I don't think neither one has been down before. So I'm excited about that rematch."
