Which smartphone is the ideal purchase for consumers? We pit the iPhone 5C against the Asus Zenfone 5 to see which is better.
For the design and display, the iPhone 5C has 4 inches LED-backlit IPS LCD display which supports a resolution of 640x1136 pixels and 326ppi. It is Apple’s first experiment with a plastic body and the smartphone was well received mostly because of the rear panels coming in vivid colors. It weighs 132 grams and its dimensions are 124.4×59.2x9 mm.
The Asus Zenfone 5 has a 5 inches IPS screen display and supports a higher resolution of 720x1280 pixels, and a pixel density of 294ppi. The smartphone has a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on top of it for protection against scratches. It is 13 grams heavier and it measures 148.2×72.8×10.3 mm.
For the hardware and OS, the iPhone 5C has a processor, which is a dual core Swift clocked at 1.3GHz (ARM v7-based) and it’s backed by an Apple A6 chipset. It uses a PowerVR SGX543MP3 GPU, while the Zenfone 5 has the SGX544MP2 GPU version, but the Asus smartphone is powered by two variants of processors: dual core 2GHz/Intel Atom Z2580 chipset or 1.6GHz/ Intel Atom Z2560.
The iPhone 4C has 1GB of RAM and two unexpandable variants of internal storage with the capacity or 8/16/32 GB, and it runs on the iOS 7, with the possibility to upgrade it to iOS 7.1.2 and later to iOS 8.
The Asus Zenfone 5 in the other hand, runs on the v4.3 (Jelly Bean), which can be upgraded into v4.4.2 (KitKat) and has a 8 and 16GB of internal storage, expandable up to 64GB and 1GB or 2GB of RAM.
For the battery and camera specs, both smartphones have non removable Li-Po batteries, but the Asus Zenfone 5 has a bigger battery with the capacity of 2110mAh, which allows up to 18 hours and 30 minutes of talktime on 3G. The iPhone 5C has a 1510mAh battery which lasts 10 hours when talking on 3G.
They also have 8MP rear cameras with 3264×2448 pixels, autofocus and LED flash and the only mutual feature is geo tagging. The iPhone 5C offers face detection, panorama, HDR, touch focus and simultaneous HD video and image recording. The secondary camera is 1.2MP, while the Zenfone 5 has a 2MP front camera. In addition, both primary cameras record videos at 1080p@30fps.
The iPhone 5C 16GB variant cost $517, while the 32GB variant costs $563. The Asus Zenfone 5 16GB variant is around $220.
