FX has picked up "Baskets," a new comedy series starring Zach Galifianakis and Louis C.K., that will be released in 2016.
Galifianakis, who starred in "The Hangover," will join the ten-part series as one of its cast members. He will also serve as the show's writer and executive producer, alongside award-winning comedian C.K, according to Reuters.
"Baskets" will chronicle the life of a Chip Baskets, played by Galifianakis, a man who embarks on his own journey to self discovery as he realizes his dream of becoming a professional clown, Daily Digest News reported.
Eric Schrier, president of original programming for FX, released an official statement confirming the news on Wednesday.
"Zach Galifianakis, Louis C.K. and Jonathan Krisel have created an absolutely brilliant show. To say Zach's portrayal of the lead character Chip Basket is hilarious/unique/riveting/fascinating would be an understatement. We can't wait for the world to meet him," he said.
"Baskets" will serve as the first project off of Galifianakis' production network, Pig Newton Inc. The company sealed a with the FX network in December.
Earlier this week, C.K. received the Emmy Award for comedy writing for his FX comedy. A week before, Galifianakis received an Emmy Award for the short-format live-action entertainment category at the Creative Arts ceremony "for his interview with President Obama for his web series 'Between Two Ferns," Variety noted.
Krisel is also an Emmy-nominated writer whose work as a director for "Portlandia" has been recognized, the same publication noted.
Meanwhile, FX, a unit of Twenty-First Century Fox's broadcasting arm, has been strengthening its comedy arm. The network has recently added shows like "The Tracy Morgan Project" and "Man Seeking Woman" to its lineup.
Other shows include "The Comedians" and "Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll."
Galifianakis' other credits include "The Campaign," "Due Date," "Dinner for Schmucks," "It's Kind of a Funny Story," "Bubble Boy," "What Happens In Vegas" and more.
