24 year old Danish professional tennis player Caroline Wozniacki beat the heat to win over a match that she has been coveting for and that is winning the game against Maria Sharapova.

Sharapova couldn't keep up with the pressure brought about the Wozniacki stamina. AS a matter of fact, Wozniacki still has plans to join the New York Marathon which will be happening two months from now. That's how confident she is of her endurance.

Wozniacki won 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 in a matter of 2 hours, 37 minutes. The game had a 10 minute break before the final set due scorching heat of the day.

According to Wozniacki "The season for me has been a little bit up and down and it's so nice to kind of start feeling like I'm playing the way I want to."

Wozniacki was runner-up at the 2009 US Open and the 2010 WTA Tour Championships in Doha against Kim Clijsters but she has not won a women's Grand Slam title yet.

During the 10 minute set break, Sharapova came back late and had received a time violation warning for doing so. She argued with the umpire for the matter but has fallen to deaf ears. But Wozniacki later complained that Sharapova was dawdling between points.

Because of her tardiness the crowd at Arthur Ashe Stadium cheered on for Wozniacki. When the 10th-seeded Dane broke Sharapova at love to go up 3-1 in the final set, she got a standing ovation from the fans. Sharapova had appeared to hit a winner three times on that game's final point only for Wozniacki to somehow chase down the ball. Finally, Sharapova put a volley into the net.

Sharapova said "She's very good at getting a lot of balls back and making you hit another one. In the end, I went for a little too much."

Sharapova had been 17-6 in three-set matches this year, including her come-from-behind second-round victory here. The fifth-seeded Sharapova's loss leaves No. 1 Serena Williams as the only woman remaining of the top six.

Wozniacki had been thinking about her game during the third set saying "If I'm going to lose. at least I'm going to do it with dignity."

Good for her that she won the game.
