Joan Rivers news released Sunday night said the TV icon is still unconscious three days after being rushed to a hospital from surgery complications. A report from ABC News said the comedienne's daughter and their family are "keeping (their) fingers crossed."
Melissa Rivers, daughter of the outspoken "Fashion Police" host, expressed their family's gratitude as they await developments on their 81-year-old mother's health condition.
"Thank you for your continued love and support. We are keeping our fingers crossed," Melissa Rivers said.
According to a report from E!Online, the veteran celebrity and "Fashion Police" host stopped breathing during a minor endoscopic procedure at a medical clinic.
A source said: "They were putting a scope down her throat to check her vocal cords. She stopped breathing."
Joan Rivers news said an emergency call was made and the comedienne was then rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. Her 46-year-old daughter Melissa Rivers immediately followed and was joined by her 13-year-old son, Cooper, who wanted to be by his grandmother's side.
The source added that the minor endoscopic operation was "not a major surgery", and that Joan Rivers was sedated during the procedure.
An earlier statement was released by the hospital last week, on behalf of the family, reported by Washington Post: "Her family wants to thank everybody for their outpouring of love and support. We will provide an update on her condition as it becomes available."
Just hours before Joan Rivers emergency news broke, the comedienne reportedly even joked about dying while at her Wednesday night show at the Laurie Beechman Theatre in Manhattan, New York.
A 45-year-old audience member named Shade Rupe narrated the incident to NY Daily News: "She did a joke onstage, she goes, 'I'm 81 - I could go at any moment!'"
The audience member claimed that Joan Rivers even said: "'I could fall over right here and you all could say, 'I was there!'"
