Streaming for "The Blacklist" TV series officially commences in the coming weekend. Netflix has purchased the rights for a hefty sum of $2 million per episode, said to be the most expensive subscription deal.

According to Deadline, the deal is a candidate for being one of the priciest subscription video-on-demand for a drama series. Netflix has taken first dibs with the streaming rights of "The Blacklist" TV series. However, Sony TV will also be peddling it for syndication by broadcast and cable networks.

Entertainment Weekly takes the mystery out of this deal by explaining why "The Blacklist" TV series commanded such a stellar price. Among the new dramas, the show is a cut above the rest with such high viewership ratings. The popularity of the show among drama series fanatics earned it a second season with complete 22-episode line-up.

Deadline reported that NBC's claim of ownership of the drama series is minor. Forbes corroborated this fact when they shared that it was among the 10 scripted 18-49 dramas aired on TV that was not exclusively owned. During the past five years whereby the network has focused more on serialized programs, "The Backlist," which falls under the category of a procedural drama, stood out.

For Netflix, the main magnet besides the 4.4 rating (as reported by Deadline) the show garnered for adult viewers would have to be its serialized plot. Forbes divulged that because the audience is comprised of DVR viewers, it is only given that streaming outlets will benefit more from acquiring it.

Based on the files of IMDB, "The Blacklist," which stars James Spader and Megan Boone, is a procedural drama thriller. Its plot revolves around the mystery explaining the sudden re-appearance of Raymond "Red" Reddington, an-ex government agent on the top wanted list for many years. The drama begins when he stuns everyone with his intention to help uncover a group of terrorists if and only if, he would be corresponding with Elizabeth "Liz" Keen, an FBI profiler.
