Gina Carano's fight deal with the UFC will be done before year's end, as confirmed by Dana White. The company president, however, is uncertain if "Conviction" will be getting an immediate title shot against Ronda Rousey once she is signed.
Gina Carano's fight contract with the UFC has been announced in late-July by Dana White himself. Back then, the negotiation process to get the former Strikeforce contender on board with the UFC was still on the onset.
"It's complicated," White told ESPN. "I'm very positive about it, but it's complicated. I'm still working on it. That's all I can say."
White mentioned the news about Gina Carano's fight deal in the UFC during an interview MMAjunkie late last month however, he was still unable to give out concrete answers. But he did promise to give answers by the first week of this month.
It's complicated, but I think it's close," White said. "I had a plan, but now I don't know. "We have to see how this plays out. As I said before, I should know in September - the first week of September."
During this past weekend's UFC 177 post-fight media scrum, White touched on the subject once again. This time, he has promised to have the Gina Carano fight deal done before the year ends.
"There's just one more little thing (in the negotiations)," he said. "It's close, but it'll be done (before the end of the year)."
Gina Carano is regarded as one of the best women's fighters in mixed martial arts. Despite not seeing action since 2009, "Conviction" is being clamored for a fight, and potentially a title shot against reigning bantamweight champion "Rowdy" Ronda Rousey.
But with the recent shake-ups in the UFC's women's bantamweight division, Dana White is left unsure if Carano will indeed be given an immediate title shot.
"I did at one point (believe Carano would get a title shot)," he added. "I don't know now. Cat Zingano is next in line. And Bethe Correia looked great tonight."
