The latest "Brilliance" movie update features the sci-fi flick still in pre-production limbo. Earlier this year, the Internet went abuzz with big stars' names being dropped as part of the purported cast. However, up until now, no report or any word from the creators about the film's latest developments have surfaced.
A year ago, Screenrant featured a critical "Brilliance" movie update, as it had the opportunity to discuss significant details about the novel with the author Marcus Sakey. The first question he addressed is the supposed similarity of the savants in his novel with the X-men characters.
He bluntly commented in the "Brilliance" movie update then, that he found the comparison absurd and flattering at the same time. The author stressed out that the supermen in his novel, the savants, belong to a totally different category.
Sakey explained that his story delved into the social aspect , particularly the realistic reaction of otherwise average people to such gifted individuals, whose abilities, although astounding in many ways, cannot be completely considered fantastic or even mutant-like.
The interesting premise of his novel drew the attention of Legendary Pictures. After claiming the rights to create the film adaptation, talks about cast selection commenced immediately. Will Smith was the first big name star who was rumored to play the lead role in the film, reported The Wrap.
Unfortunately, long before the "Men in Black" actor could confirm anything about being the adaptation's lead actor, Cinema Blend revealed that he had backed out. Jared Leto was rumored to be the next choice in line. However, he too turned down the offer.
As of this writing, Legendary pictures have not yet released any statement regarding the cast. Nonetheless, they already have some of the behind-the-scenes key positions filled in. Cinema Blend provided "Brilliance" movie update when it reported that Julius Onah will be directing while the screenplay will be penned by David Koepp who wrote blockbusters "Jurassic Park" and "Spiderman," to name a few.
