Randy Couture news reveal that "The Natural" may face "The Last Emperor" Fedor Emelianenko in a superfight, as Bellator FC President Scott Coker is eyeing for the match-up to happen under Russian mixed martial arts promotion company M-1 Global.
Both "The Natural" and "The Last Emperor" have established records in MMA. Couture holds multiple titles in various wrestling tournaments before entering the UFC in 1997. Throughout his 11 year mixed martial arts career, "The Natural" held both the light heavyweight and heavyweight titles twice, before eventually hanging up the gloves in 2011 after a knockout loss against Lyoto "The Dragon" Machida.
Fedor Emelianenko, on the other hand, competed in Sambo tournaments in Russia before venturing into MMA in 2000. He is most notably known for his stint in the now-defunct PRIDE FC, wherein he held the world heavyweight title three times. He also competed under the Strikeforce banner, before retiring in June 2012 after a first round knockout victory against fellow veteran Pedro Rizzo.
Randy Couture news also reveal that newly appointed Bellator FC president Scott Coker was the former Strikeforce CEO who brought "The Last Emperor" into the United States in 2009. And while Coker admitted that making the mega fight happen would be a long shot, he is still open to seeing it take place.
"You know, that's a fight I personally would love to see, but I just don't know if it's going to happen," Coker said in a report by MMA Junkie.
Further reports on the Randy Couture news reveal that the UFC had attempted to make the fight happen in 2007, but negotiations with M-1 fell short.
Since his retirement, "The Natural" had been involved in showbiz gigs, such as being a part of the "Expendables" franchise cast, and most recently, as a part of the 19th season of "Dancing With The Stars."
Scott Coker also disclosed that he is looking to have the proposed mega fight under the M-1 Global banner, which Emelianenko is a part owner.
"All I can say is that we're in dialogue with M-1, but that's all I have to say at this time about that," Coker added.
