News broke out that Ray Rice had told NFL commissioner Roger Goodell last June 16 that he punched his then fiancée Janay Palmer inside an elevator. Thi has been reported by four sources to "Outside the Lines."
The statement directly contradicts Goodell statement that when he met with Rice and his representatives he said "it was ambiguous about what actually happened."
According to sources "Ray didn't lie to the commissioner. He told the full truth to Goodell -- he made it clear he had hit her, and he told Goodell he was sorry and that it wouldn't happen again."
Goodell talked to CBS News last Tuesday that the latest video released by TMZ was conflicting with what Rice had told him.
But sources close to Rice said that during the disciplinary meeting in the commissioner's office on June 16, Rice had told Goodell about what happened including the new video released where he knocked Janay out inside an elevator at Revel Casino Hotel elevator in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Another source says "He told the truth. This is a public lynching of Ray."
A third source says that "there was no ambiguity about what happened [in the elevator]."
During the same interview with CBS News, the network's Norah O'Donnell reminded Goodell about the TMZ video that surfaced of Ray dragging Janay's body outside of the elevator.
To this Goodell answered "We did not know what led up to that. We did not know the details of that. We asked for that on several occasions."
Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome said this week that Rice was truthful to him and Ravens head coach John Harbaugh when they had a conversation with the athlete. He said "You know, Ray had given a story to John and I. And what we saw on the video was what Ray said. Ray didn't lie to me. He didn't lie to me."
Right now, NFL fans are conflicted on whether Goodell really didn't know of the incident or that this was a blatant cover-up of the controversy. Many are waiting for NFL's next step on the incident and how it would affect the organization in general.
