After starring as superhero Ironman and saving mankind from evil forces, Robert Downey, Jr's 'The Judge' will show a different side to the Academy-award nominee.

'The Judge' stars Downey as Hank Palmer, a hotshot defense lawyer who goes back to his hometown for his mother's funeral. He later finds out that his estranged father and town judge (Robert Duvall) is under suspicion of murder.

He tries to help his father using the skills he usually uses in past cases but being a strict follower of the law, his father refuses to follow his example.

Hank sets out to know what really happened that night and eventually reconnects with the family he turned his back on years ago.

He also has to face off with the prosecutor played by another award-winning actor, Billy Bob Thornton.

With such a talented pool of actors in one film, it's no wonder that Robert Downey, Jr's 'The Judge' earned a spot as a Toronto International Film Festival entry. In fact, majority of the movie's cast have been nominated or recognized by the Academy Awards as such amazing actors.

Downey and his wife Susan stand as producer for the David Dobkin-directed film. Dobkin is best known for helming the romantic comedy films 'Friends With Benefits' and 'Wedding Crashers.'

Vera Farmiga, Jeremy Strong, Dax Shepard, Vincent D'Onofrio, Melissa Leo, Ken Howard, Leighton Meester, Balthazar Getty, David Krumholtz, and Denis O'Hare will join Academy Award winner Robert Duvall, Billy Bob Thornton and Robert Downey, Jr in 'The Judge.'

When Q With Gomeshi asked Downey whether he recognizes himself in Hank Palmer, the actor admitted that how the fictional character's life is changing is much like his real life - he's currently changing now that he's nearing his 50s.

"The older I get, the less I feel the need to eat up all the oxygen in the room," the 'Sherlock Holmes' actor joked.

Robert Downey's 'The Judge' will be released on October 10, distributed through Warner Brothers and Village Roadshow Pictures.
