Michael Schumacher update reveals that "Schumi" had been released from Lausanne rehabilitation clinic in Switzerland, as the Formula One legend prepares to continue his rehabilitation process in his own home.
Schumacher had been undergoing rehab for injuries he sustained from an accident while skiing at the French Alps with his 14-year old son in December 2013. He was placed in a medically induced coma for six months, before eventually awakening in June.
Since then, he had been transferred from the Grenoble Hospital in France, to the Lausanne rehab clinic in his home country of Switzerland. However, in a report by The Telegraph, the 45-year old motorsports icon had been released from the said medical facility.
The Michael Schumacher update was confirmed by his manager, Sabine Kehm.
"Henceforth, Michael's rehabilitation will take place at his home," Kehm said.
Kehm, however, clarified that despite potentially out of harm's way, the progress for Michael Scumacher's recovery is still a long, grueling one.
"Considering the severe injuries he suffered, progress has been made in the past weeks and months," Kehm said about the Michael Schumacher update. "There is still, however, a long and difficult road ahead."
Schumacher's manager also thanked Lausanne for all the efforts they have contributed to the racing legend's gradual but continuous recovery.
"We would like extend our gratitude to the entire team at CHUV Lausanne for their thorough and competent work," Kehm said."
Fans and well-wishers have continued their show of support for the injured motorsports icon. Early this month, eight-year old Aidan Gormley wrote a book about Schumacher, which was commended by the racer's wife, Corinna.
"I would like to thank you for your best wishes and your kind present, which help us to move forward in those difficult moments," Corinna Schumacher said in a report by FOX Sports.
However, Kehm has continued to ask for privacy as the family goes through the ordeal.
"We ask that the privacy of Michael's family continue to be respected, and that speculations about his state of health are avoided," she said.
