Fresh from the news that the Hollywood power couple had just gotten hitched, comes news of their much awaited movie collaboration. It's just like Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt to get married secretly, during the weekend of the Emmy Awards, so that everyone would be distracted. And it's just like them to choose a non-blockbuster type of movie to make together, after a long dry spell where they didn't do any movies together.
The new Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt movie By The Sea is a small, romantic drama that they've always wanted to do, but nobody has pictured them starring in. We see in the first couple of pictures that have been released from the movie (courtesy of an article in Entertainment Weekly), that it looks to be an intimate, character driven drama. The setting of the movie is in France, and Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt star as a married couple who -- after years of being together -- are slowly drifting apart. But soon, their love for each other is reignited when they visit a small French village and have some to get to know the local residents.
Aside from starring in this moody drama, Angelina Jolie is also taking on the helms of writing and directing the movie. It will be her directing effort after In The Land of Blood And Honey (2011) and Unbroken (coming to theaters this December). The last time that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt worked together was for the romantic action movie Mr. and Mrs. Smith, where they also met and fell in love.
The movie is said to be a "period piece," and the Maleficent actress revealed why she chose to set the movie in the 1970s.
"I chose to set By the Sea in the 1970s, not only because it is a colorful and alluring era, but because it removes many of the distractions of contemporary life and allows the focus to remain squarely on the emotions that the characters experience in their journey."
The film is currently being shot with Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt in Malta, although no release date has been confirmed yet. Stay tuned.
