It's a huge win for the movie "The Fault in our Stars". Since it opened in June in North America, it has already crossed the $300 million mark in worldwide box office. Overseas, it has already grossed $175.1 million
The producers, Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey, were all smiles these days. Surely, they get to remember the days they have to continuously push Fox executive Elizabeth Gabler to do the film. According to a Deadline report, she said yes but she cautioned them to keep a good watch on the budget. And they did great because they only spent 12 million to do the blockbuster movie!
What can be the secrets behind the success? Deadline pointed toward four primary reasons.
First, "The Fault in our Stars" was based on a bestselling book authored by John Green, who has millions of YouTube followers. Second, the script was well-written by Michael Weber and Scott Neustadter. Third is the great chemistry between the lead actors, Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort - plus their undeniable talent.
The fourth secret can be the attention-grabbing trailer developed by Cami Sargent. The movie's trailer focuses on the topic of cancer and the love story that grows between two people suffering from the illness. It was made to run for a long span of time that it reached 20 million viewership.
Cinema Blend added one more rationalization. Aside from the star power, timing may also be an important factor for its international box office success. The two has just starred in "Divergent", which earned $54 million in its first week.
The website also indicated that the nationwide tour and the advanced screening event ("The Night Before Our Stars") may have contributed significantly in the opening weekend.
"The Fault in our Stars" DVD, Blu-ray, and digital HD are now available.
