As it turns out, the author that has brought us "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter," also has another literary gem waiting to be turned into cinematic gold. Seth Grahame-Smith has written a great twist to another revered figure, and this time it is Elizabeth Bennett of Pride and Prejudice. This particular novel, will now soon become the Pride and Prejudice and Zombies movie.
Matt Smith (who played Doctor Who for British TV for four seasons) has just been confirmed as part of the cast for the movie adaption of this deliciously fun take on the literary classic. Smith will be playing Mr. Collins, while Lily James (best known for her role as Lady Rose in TV's Downton Abbey), will be the heroine Elizabeth Bennett. The Pride and Prejudice and Zombies movie will begin filming on September 24, while the release date is slated sometime next year.
The book's plot follows closely the storyline of the original Pride and Prejudice novel. But this time, there is the problem of zombies. In the novel they are called, the "stricken, the "undead," and the "unmentionables," and the story takes on these elements by transforming the Bennet sisters into fearsome zombie fighting warriors who have been brought up in martial arts and weapons training by their father. Meanwhile, their mother's preoccupation is to marry them off to suitably wealthy husbands.
The Pride and Prejudice Zombie movie was originally supposed to be starred in by Natalie Portman, who bought the rights to novel. The actress also originally planned to have David O. Russel (Silver Linings Playbook) direct the film. Now Portman is still on board as producer, but another director will be taking on directorial duties, Burr Steers (17 Again).
Other Pride and Prejudice movie cast include Douglas Booth (Romeo and Juliet), as Bingley while the dashing Mr. Darcy will be brought to life by Sam Riley (Maleficent).
