The Return of Jeremy Renner in "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters 2" could be compromised due to his hectic filming schedules, said Tommy Wirkola, the writer and director of the action-thriller film.
Wirkola, who also directed "Dead Snow" and "Dead Snow 2," expressed his doubts over the "Avengers" actor's availability to reprise his role of Hansel in the sequel, reported Shock Till You Drop, per JoBlo.
During the interview with Cinema Blend, Jeremy Renner in "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters 2" was merely a speculation that the actor confirmed. At that time, he admitted that although he knew that a script was in the works, he had not yet signed on to do the project.
However, when the actor was asked if he would take part in the sequel, he readily answered that he would not have a problem with it. He even went on to say that filming the movie was very enjoyable for him.
As it turned out, at that time, no one from the film's people had gotten in touch with him yet. Here is what Renner said exactly in the Cinema Blend interview:
"Yeah (they have not), and it's ultimately going to come down to--I know they have a release date and they really want to get it out there--but I have to have the time. I'm only one man, right? And then also Gemma's availability. It'll come down to availability I'm sure. "
So will Jeremy Renner in "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters 2" become a big screen reality or not?
Die-hard fans of the dark, R-rated, action-packed fairy-tale-based flick would want to see Renner take up his gun again and go witch hunting with his on-screen sister-cum-hunting-partner Gretel. As of this writing, JoBlo reported that Wirkola has already turned in the script to Paramount Pictures.
The decision to greenlight the film now rests on the studio honchos hands - and with that fans would have to wait until production officially starts to see if Renner would join the hunt again.
