For a bit of time, fans of the Gone Girl novel were a bit worried that the movie version that David Fincher (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Social Network) was directing, had gone ahead and completely changed the ending of the movie. This was due to some remarks dropped by the director, describing lead actor Ben Affleck's reaction to the script when he read it.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, it was hinted at that the book's author, Gillian Flynn, who also wrote the movie's script, had made major changes from the book's story, and had even created an brand new ending. Director David Fincher revealed to the magazine that Affleck was taken aback by the new conclusion to the story. "Ben was so shocked by it," he said "He would say, 'This is a whole new third act! She literally threw that third act out and started from scratch.'" While we still don't know how the movie will end, even if several Gone Girl trailers have been released, we have been given a glance of how the relationship between the lead characters, Nick Dunne and Amy Dunne first met.
It's a sweet, flirty first meeting between Nick (Ben Affleck) and Amy (Rosamund Pike), and they seem to be in a party.
The Gone Girl trailers have so far given us the following plot lines for the movie. The story revolves around the Dunne couple and the media frenzy that surrounds them when Amy) vanishes on the morning of their fifth wedding anniversary. Nick becomes the main suspect of her murder. The trailer looks like a typical David Fincher movie, dark, brooding and chilling -- and the actors are at their performance best, especially Affleck as the embattled husband.
Neil Patrick Harris co-stars as Amy's obsessive ex-boyfriend Desi Collings, while Tyler Perry plays the defense attorney that Ben Affleck's character hires in the wake of the murder accusation. Gone Girl will hit cinemas on October 3, in the meantime, check out the first meeting trailer here:
