'Captain Underpants' Release Date Set For January 13, 2017; Movie Adaptation Of Children Novel Series To Be Directed By 'Monsters vs. Aliens' Director Rob Letterman

"Captain Underpants" release date is confirmed set for January 13, 2017. Originally, it is children novel series created by American author and illustrator Dav Pilkey. Based on Wikipedia, the novel version's plot reads,

"The series revolves around two fourth graders, George Beard and Harold Hutchins, living in Piqua Ohio, and Captain Underpants, an aptly named superhero from one of the boys' homemade comic books, that accidentally becomes real when George and Harold hypnotize their megalomaniacal principal, Mr. Krupp."

Additionally, the novel series contains 10 books and 3 spin-offs. It won a Disney Adventures Kids' Choice Award in 2007. In 2013, the novel series had been translated in over 20 languages and more than 70 million books sold worldwide, and 50 million in the United States.

DreamWorks Animation got the rights of the "Captain Underpants" novel series to make it an animated film adaptation. The director of the movie adaptation will be Rob Letterman who is known for his movie 'Monsters vs. Aliens'.

Moreover, he is currently working in movie adaptation of 90's horror film book "Goosebumps", which is reportedly set to hit theaters next year. According to Cinemablend, this movie adaptation is set to premiere on August 7, 2015. "Goosebumps" got also its TV series, which was released on October 27, 1995 and its final episode was released on November 16, 1998.

According to Philly.com's latest news about "Captain Underpants" animated movie adaptation, voice actors Kevin Hart and Ed Helms have joined the voice casting of this upcoming movie.

The plot for the film, as posted on IMBD reads:

"Two grade-school kids hypnotize their mean principal into assuming a secret identity of an under-wear clad superhero who helps their fellow classmates."
