Wanderlei Silva news reveals Dana White's responses to "The Axe Murderer's" rants, as the UFC president claims that the PRIDE FC legend and mixed martial arts veteran made $9.7 million with the promotion company.
Early this week, "The Axe Murderer" announced his retirement from mixed martial arts competition, but was also issued a lifetime ban by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, along with a fine of $70,000. Silva, however, aired out his frustrations, one of which was centered on one popular topic among disgruntled fighters, salary issues.
Wanderlei Silva news reveals that the 38-year old MMA legend focused on fellow Brazilian and former UFC bantamweight champion Renan Barao, whom he felt was greatly underpaid. His statements were reported by Bloody Elbow.
"Barao was in a 32 fights unbeaten streak, undisputed champion, best pound for pound fighter in the world," Silva said. "I'm not talking about numbers but I was told he was living in a favela until little time ago. I've seen a picture that he was in a very poor house with his UFC belt beside him."
"If I was the promotion's owner, I would feel ashamed to pay him little money and charge him so hard," he continued. "These guys are bad characters to call a guy a kid, like they did with Barao. We don't have voice, but it's going to change."
Wanderlei Silva news also reveals that UFC president Dana White responded to "The Axe Murderer's" rants through a report by MMA Fighting. For the company executive, the PRIDE FC legend was out of line with his comments.
"Let me tell you what: Wanderlei Silva has fought six times in the last five years," White said. "He's fought six times in five years. If being overworked is fighting one time a year, I don't know what to tell you."
The UFC President also revealed that Wanderlei Silva has made $9.7 million in his tenure with the company.
"So Silva says everybody's getting rich except the fighters," White continued. "What does Wanderlei considers rich? $9.7 million isn't rich? A lot of people would consider that rich."
