Chael Sonnen news features "The American Gangster" ending his feud with would-be opponent Wanderlei Silva, as the former UFC title contender believes that "The Axe Murderer" is "a meaningful presence" in the sport of mixed martial arts.

The heated rivalry between Sonnen and Silva was on an all-time high when the two former fighters coached against each other for the Ultimate Fighter Brazil earlier this year.

The two men were slated against each other at UFC 175 in July, but due to mandatory drug test issues, they were pulled out of competition. Sonnen failed his second test in June, which consequently led to his retirement from competition, while Silva announced his departure as well last week.

Chael Sonnen news also reveals that "The Axe Murderer" went on to side with "The American Gangster" during the entire drug testing brouhaha. For the veteran MMA fighter, Sonnen got the raw end of the deal after receiving a stiffer punishment in the form of a two-year suspension imposed by the Nevada Athletic Commission, while Vitor Belfort, who committed the same offense, was allowed to continue with his fighting career.

"It was gentlemanlike," Silva said in a report by Bloody Elbow. "I haven't spoken with Sonnen but people say that he's a nice guy. He was wronged by NSAC. I think it's unfair if you punish one and don't punish the other guy."

Chael Sonnen news further reveals that the former UFC title contender has made peace with his former Brazilian adversary, in his recent interview with MMA Mania.

"Whatever he did or was getting ready to do to me, I was the opponent in question, and I forgive him," Sonnen said. "I forgive him."

"The American Gangster" went on to honor the PRIDE FC veteran, whom he believes is a legend of the sport.

"I think he was a very meaningful presence in this sport and I think he will be remembered like that," he added.
